Sourcing & brand development

Product sourcing and private-label manufacturing for Canadian brands

Your product, sourced and landed. Your brand, built. Have a specific product you need made, or a private-label brand you want to launch? Our sourcing specialists take it from a first brief to finished goods in Canada — factory, samples, certification, packaging, inspection and freight, managed from beginning to end.

Product sourcing

You know what you need — a spec, a target price, a quantity. We find and vet the factories that can make it, negotiate, and manage the order through to delivery.

Private-label brand creation

Your own brand on products built for the Canadian market: product selection, branding and packaging design, bilingual labelling, and a first production run you can sell.

Compliance handled

ISED, CSA/cUL, bilingual packaging and Health Canada rules are built into the plan from the first brief — not discovered when the container lands.

Who we work with

Built for brands selling in Canada

Amazon.ca and FBA sellers

Products sourced, labelled and prepped for Amazon, delivered to an FBA warehouse or your 3PL, with supplier invoices that hold up for category ungating.

Shopify and direct-to-consumer brands

A product line under your own name, with packaging and bilingual labelling done before the first production run.

Retailers building a house brand

Private-label versions of the categories you already sell, quoted as a landed cost in CAD so you can set your margin before you commit.

Brands re-sourcing a product

A second factory, a better price or an improved version, without pausing the line you already sell.

Why Ridgeport

A Canadian sourcing partner, not an overseas middleman

Most sourcing agents are based in China and quote a factory price. The number that matters to a Canadian brand is the landed cost: duty, freight, brokerage and the certification the product needs before it can legally be sold here. We quote that number, in Canadian dollars, before anything goes into production.

  • Landed cost in CAD, not just a factory price in USD
  • Canadian rules planned in from the first brief: ISED, CSA/cUL, Health Canada and bilingual labels
  • Factories checked before you pay: business licence, capacity, export history and certifications
  • Pre-shipment inspection before the balance is paid
  • Delivered to your warehouse, Amazon FBA or a 3PL
  • Based in Southwestern Ontario, meeting factories in person at China's trade fairs, including the Canton Fair
How a project runs

From brief to landed, in six steps

1

Brief

You tell us the product, the quantity, the target landed cost and the timeline. We come back within two business days with whether it is realistic.

2

Factory shortlist

We identify and check suppliers — business licence, production capacity, export history, existing certifications — and share a shortlist with indicative pricing.

3

Samples and development

Samples are ordered and reviewed. For a brand project this is where logo, packaging, inserts and bilingual labelling are designed and approved.

4

Certification and costing

We confirm what Canada requires for the product, arrange testing where needed, and give you a firm landed cost in CAD before anything goes into production.

5

Production and inspection

Production is scheduled against a deposit, with a pre-shipment inspection before the balance is paid.

6

Freight and delivery

Ocean or air freight, customs clearance and duties, delivered to your warehouse or to an Amazon FBA or 3PL facility.

FAQ

Sourcing questions, answered

What does a product sourcing agent do?

A sourcing agent finds and checks the factories that can make your product, negotiates price and terms, manages samples and production, inspects the goods and arranges shipping. You deal with one Canadian company instead of managing a factory overseas yourself.

How much does Ridgeport charge for sourcing?

Every project is quoted up front. Sourced goods are sold to you at an agreed landed price per unit, and brand development work is quoted as a fixed fee. Production runs on a 30% deposit, with the balance due before the goods ship.

What is the minimum order quantity?

It depends on the product and the factory. Tell us your first-order quantity in the brief, including under 500 units, and we will tell you within two business days whether it is realistic.

How long does a sourcing project take?

We reply to every brief within two business days. Goods sourced to order typically take 6 to 12 weeks, including production and freight. A new brand that needs packaging design or certification takes longer, and we give you the timeline before you commit.

Can you create a private-label brand from scratch?

Yes. We handle product selection, branding and packaging design, bilingual labelling and a first production run you can sell. Our private-label guide covers the trademark, barcode and Amazon steps.

Do you handle Canadian certification and bilingual labelling?

Yes. We confirm what Canada requires for the product before production: ISED for wireless products, CSA or cUL for mains-powered products, Health Canada rules for cosmetics, and English and French labelling. Testing is arranged where needed. See our electronics compliance guide and bilingual labelling guide.

Can you ship directly to Amazon FBA?

Yes. We arrange ocean or air freight, customs clearance and duties, and deliver to your warehouse, an Amazon FBA warehouse or a 3PL.

Why not just order from Alibaba myself?

You can, and our Alibaba-to-Canada guide shows how. Working with us adds factory checks, a landed cost in CAD before you commit, Canadian compliance, pre-shipment inspection, and one company in Canada accountable for the order.
